Harvesting the Olive Trees
Our Farm has a long antic tradition of producing oil. In our mill there are still the original stone tubs used for pressing the olives and different oil amphora’s that are very old.
Our Autumn guests that would like to have a on hands, unique and magical experience can take part with us in the olive harvest. It begins now, in fact the harvest season, and the pressing of the olives, it is a ritual that has been repeated over thousands of years basically unchanged: The same gestures, the same work rhythms, and the machinery in the oil mill are basically the same as always.
Participating in the oil harvest is like going back in time, feeling like a Ligurian farmer,or a person from the Middle Ages. You wake up early in the morning because the days in November are short and there is no time to waste after a rich buffet breakfast: coffee, milk, jams and marmalade, and toast and then we are off with a ladder, nets, and a pair of gloves. The best way to harvest olives is the simple and old way to grab each branch shaking it up and down until all the olives fall into the net.
It is a rural experience which you can live to the fullest, you will always savor this experience, of producing golden fragrant Ligurian oil, from the laborious harvest using nets to the pressing. You than can taste our oil in the comfort of your home.
